Paranormal Romance November 2018 & Is Barnes & Noble Going Under?
Rumors have been swirling about Barnes and Noble going up for sale. Some shrug their shoulders while others panic.
BN is the last big chain book store that actually has physical stores in most large cities. Amazon is flirting with the idea and has opened a few brick and mortar stores…but Barnes and Noble is still the go to for book shopping in the real world.
If they go out, what will book lovers have left? Perhaps small indie stores will come back.
In my area I have a couple used book stores and while those are wonderful and I love to browse the stacks, they aren’t book stores that stock the latest releases. Nor do the sales benefit authors. Used books don’t earn royalties.
I think book sales and authors will take a hit if BN closes. Some argue that Amazon will pick up the slack but I don’t know. The younger crowd, for all their love of technology and gadgets, seem to hate eBooks. I’ve heard this from many, many kids and teens who are booklovers. Reading on a device is not the same. They love real books. My kids included. Even though each one spends time on their phones, tablets, computers, etc. when it comes time to read (which they do often) they pick up a real book. And to choose a real book they love wandering through the bookstore.
My kids beg me to take them to Barnes and Noble. Beg. To go to a bookstore. A book loving mother could not be more proud.
So I hope BN doesn’t tank and go out of business causing the stores to close. If they do sell I hope someone buys them that has enough business sense to pull them into the modern world to compete with Amazon.
As long as they are open I’ll take my kids book shopping.
I see a few new releases this month that I may need to pick up on our next trip.
