Marie Harte, Get Your Holiday On! - #LettersFromtheAuthors
December is flying by, and I’m fully immersed in the holiday spirit. I’ll soon be attending the annual Christmas party with my writer pals. With any luck will I’ll win the ugly sweater contest…again. Yes, I’m the champ two years running.
I’ve gone to my good friend’s Christmas concert, and it was Deck-the-Halls fabulous! The tree is up, the lights are out, and I’m gorging myself on the Hallmark channel. Yes, I freely admit it. I love holiday movies. My boys, one teenager, the other a pre-teen, groan, sigh, and have daily seizures when they see me plunked down in front of a Hallmark Christmas movie, my hot cocoa in hand. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a sweet story, a kiss at the end, and romance…all done within the span of two hours. Ha!
With Hallmark as my inspiration, I wanted to write my own Christmas “movie.” I live in Central Oregon in a town that used to be small but is growing at a tremendous rate. So Hope’s Turn might look a little like my town. And Simon, the sarcastic teenage boy in the story, just might bear some resemblance to my two knucklehead kids. Unfortunately, that’s where the similarities end. While we do have one or two ex-NFL types in town, I haven’t met any. I’m not a widower, and sadly, I do not own a teahouse. So, no millionaire handsome boyfriend on my end.
But I do have a vivid imagination, and it was beyond fun to write about a woman needing hope, a boy getting a bigger family (and maybe a dog), and a man finding his purpose. Money really means nothing unless there’s happiness there too.
Enjoy your holidays. Be happy, and hug your loved ones. And if you get a chance, pick up a copy of Any Given Snow Day. You’ll be in for some snark, some fun, and a few sexy dates with Becca and Mitch.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
ANY GIVEN SNOW DAY
Ex-NFL star + snarky single mom = a touchdown of a holiday romance
After two Super Bowl rings, MVP status, and retiring from the NFL while still on top, Mitch “Flash” Flashman’s millions should make life at the ripe old age of thirty-five a blessing. Yet he’s restless, rudderless, and can’t tell up from down. Roped into helping his brother coach a bunch of teenagers, Mitch finds himself playing defense against the many women in town wanting his attention. Except for one particular woman who doesn’t seem to like him much. Becca Bragg is mouthy, vulnerable, and sexy, and she captivates Mitch despite himself. But Mitch has no time for a sexy single mom when he’s still trying to figure out who he really is. With the playoffs, a boy’s future, and his own heart on the line, he’ll need to figure out how to pull the ultimate victory—winning Becca’s heart and keeping it. For good.
