Exclusive Excerpt: Confessions of a Vampire's Lover
My contemporary paranormal, Confessions of a Vampire’s Lover, is a different type of romance. For starters, the novella is told in the first person from the hero’s point of view. The story also makes use of a setting where you don’t normally find vampires—the beach!
Confessions of a Vampire’s Lover
The moment Brian spotted Anya sitting on the moonlit beach, he was hooked. Beautiful, smart, and sexy, Anya was the girl of his dreams. She didn’t mind that he spent the hot summer days riding the ocean waves, because once the sun set, he belonged to her—all night long!<
Everything is perfect between them—until Brian discovers Anya’s shocking secret. Can Brian give up the sun, sand, and surf to be with the woman he loves?
Read Brian’s first-hand account of their unusual love story in… Confessions of a Vampire’s Lover.
This e-book was previously published by Amber Quill Press. It has been revised and re-released by the author.
Three nights later, I stood looking out over the gently lapping waves. The quarter moon reflected off the water, and I let my mind wander as I waited for Anya.
Every evening we met on the beach for our date. We went to the movies, local carnivals, concerts, and out to dinner, but we always ended up back at my place. Anya said it “wasn’t an option” to spend the night where she lived. No matter how many times I offered, she never let me walk her home.
I didn’t mind. I knew I was in love with her. After our nightly sex marathons, Anya and I talked for hours. Everything was perfect between us. We had a lot in common, and she didn’t mind me surfing all day. Anya was the girl I had waited a lifetime to find.
A loud splash in the water startled me from my thoughts. I jumped back, my heart racing. Something was moving in the ocean.
I walked to the water’s edge and squinted out across the sea. Whatever was out there had gotten trapped inside the break and was in about four feet of water. I gasped as a dark shadow popped straight up out of the ocean.
Anya waved to me. “Hello, Brian.”
My heart skipped a beat. “What the hell are you doing? Get out of there!”
The moon shimmered on the water and I saw that Anya was naked. The pale moonlight illuminated every curve of her body. Her skin seemed to glow against the dark water. Entranced, I moved closer to her, my cock aching. I wanted to grab her and screw her right where she stood.
A cold wave lapped against my calf, snapping me back to reality. Now was not the time to lose my head to lustful fantasies. Anya had to get out of the water, now. Was she the only person in the world who had never seen Jaws?
“Come out of there. It’s not safe. You’re going to get killed,” I said, my voice cracking. She was too naïve about the ocean. She didn’t know the dangers like I did.
Anya ignored me and waded out deeper. Her pale buttocks bounced as she splashed in the water. “I like to swim. It’s fun.”
“Anya, come back.” I wanted to shake some sense into her pretty blonde head. She never went swimming during the day, so why had she suddenly decided to start now?
I followed her in up to my waist and stopped. The water swirled around me and I heard a splash. Anya was gone.
I scanned the water, looking for a sign of her—or a fin. As much as I loved the ocean, I had a healthy respect for it. It could be beautiful or deadly. Every surfer or swimmer knows better than to go in the water after dark. There are too many things swimming around searching for a meal.
Time crept by and I listened for a splash, Anya’s voice… anything. My heart thundered as I tried to see in between sets of waves. I checked my watch. At least five minutes had passed since Anya had gone under.
My mind raced with horrifying thoughts—it was dark, maybe she’d swum out too far and had gotten lost, had a cramp, or worse. I closed my eyes and silently begged for her to come back.
A second later, she surfaced six feet away. Her green eyes glittered in the dark. “Here I am. There’s no need to worry.”
“Dammit, Anya! What do you think you’re—”
The words froze on my lips as I sensed something else in the water. My pulse skyrocketed, and a sick sense of dread filled my stomach. I glanced around, not daring to move. I’d had the same gut reaction when a brown shark had gotten too close to me in an early morning lineup.
“Anya, come out of there, now.” I tried to keep my voice steady so I wouldn’t panic her.
“Why?” she asked as she splashed toward me.
Don’t do that!
“Don’t do what?”
My skin broke out in goose bumps. She had read my mind again. I grabbed her arm. It felt like I was holding onto an icicle. “We’re going in, now.”
“No. I’m not done swimming.”
“Anya, you shouldn’t be in the water. There’s a shark out there, for Christ’s sake.”
“I know. And it’s not just one, Brian.” She chuckled. “Actually, I saw three.”
Saw? “Are you crazy? They can kill you.”
“No they can’t.” She draped her arms around my neck and pulled me close, as if she were hungry for my touch. Her wet lips met mine, and a shock coursed through me. Anya’s lips were soft and supple, but ice cold. It was the strangest kiss I’d ever experienced, and it stirred something primal in me.
