Have you ever felt drawn to someone or something (like chocolate), and you just can’t resist them? It’s an overwhelming, powerful sensation that takes you out of yourself. You do and say things you wouldn’t normally. Almost like they draw a part of yourself out that you didn’t know existed, but you fully want to explore. If we’re talking chocolate, maybe you didn’t realize you were talented at making choc-covered strawberries or pretzels. Or maybe you knock the old lady out of the way in order to grab the last York Peppermint Patty. Okay, not really…
In my new erotic time-travel book, Behind the Plaid (the first in my Highland Bound trilogy), Emma Gordon runs away from her life and ends up traveling back in time to Gealach castle in the Scottish Highlands, where she meets Laird Logan Grant. The attraction and fascination is immediate. That silence that stretches, sparks flying, the whole word disappears, kind of draw. But there are many issues with this intense pull—one, she’s from another time; two, she’s married—albeit to an abusive man.
There is something enchanting about an instant magnetism. Some call it Fate, love at first sight or soul mates. Maybe it is all three. Or, could it possibly be just a chemical reaction between pheromones?
For Emma and Logan it is life-changing. They both have tortured pasts and souls that need healing, secrets that need baring. It’s the stuff of adult fairy tales and hopefully happily ever afters…
When I met my husband a zillion years ago, we were both camp counselors. I wasn’t immediately drawn to him, was too busy chasing after a couple other boys I thought would change my life. I rejected him—but all the while, he sat in the back of my mind, digging deeper, until I just had to know and asked him out on a date (and had to dump my current beau). That was when the draw hit me. When he held my hand, sparks flew. When he hugged me goodnight (no kiss for this gal—I was sad!) I struggled with whether or not he “liked” me, because I was already there. Infatuated by him. Later, he confessed that the hug was a way to protect himself from much of the same feelings. I love reading/writing stories of characters with raw, powerful draws. I can relive those immediate and intense feelings, they’re like a drug and I’m utterly addicted. I’m also addicted to chocolate.
So I’m curious—have you ever felt that magical draw? Do you believe in it? I’d love to give away an e-copy of Behind the Plaid to one lucky commenter!
ABOUT THE BOOK:
He dominated her mind. She possessed his soul.
Emma Gordon escapes from a troubling marriage in which she’s completely lost sight of who she is. Desperate for independence, she leaves her husband while on a trip in the Scottish Highlands. Only thing is, she ends up hurled back in time to the 16th Century Castle Gealach and headlong into the arms of the handsome, intimidating Laird Logan Grant. Thrust into a world filled with treachery, danger and intensity she must summon the courage to find her way.
Logan is tormented by a dark past and harbors a secret that could tear his country apart. He’s consumed with the need for control which wars with his longing for harmony. Unable to resist Emma’s beauty and spirit and the calm that she invokes, Logan confesses he desires her—but only on his terms. He promises erotic encounters that will change them both forever, and quench their overwhelming desire.
Despite her own reservations, Emma longs to get close to the mysterious laird, even while she is desperate to return to her own era. She agrees to Logan’s proposal to satisfy her curiosity, but in the end embarks on a daring, passionate affair that rocks her to the very core. Secrets are uncovered, souls bared, spirits transformed. Neither of them can hide behind the plaid.
