Cyprus Is for Lovers #Travel
Cyprus is for lovers: lovers of history, Mediterranean cuisine, the bluest sky and the clearest sea. Since I love all those things, as far as I’m concerned, Cyprus is a little slice of heaven. I can’t wait to visit again.
The island is in the Mediterranean Sea, and it has been occupied by Egypt, the Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire, etc. etc. over the centuries. It’s an island that St. Paul of the Bible visited. He was tied to a column and whipped, according to his letters. Standing next to that same column felt surreal. The entire island is history come to life. While we were there, we watched a Roman mosaic uncovered. We also walked underground in the catacombs where early Christians worshipped.
Of course, visited the Ottoman harem in Paphos. If those walls could talk! I was struck by the exotic beauty of the ruins, while knowing at the same time that everything is, of course, tied to a very bloody history and invasion.
What else should you see if you go? The Ayios Neophytos monastery, a still working monastery carved in the hillside where the first monks lived in caves.
And if you need a break from history? Take a beauty break. Did you know that the goddess of beauty, Aphrodite, was born on Cyprus, according to myth? If you ask the locals, they’ll point you to a hidden pool where she used to bathe. If you wash your face in the water, you’ll be beautiful forever. I say that’s worth a trip!
I love traveling. I wish I could do more of it. As an author, I often choose international settings for my books. The first book of my AGENTS UNDER FIRE trilogy is set in Italy, Venice. FORCED DISAPPEARANCE is set in Venezuela. FLASH FIRE in Mexico. GIRL IN THE WATER in Brazil, in the Amazon rainforest. And when I need a break from all that traveling? SILENT THREAT was just released, a romantic suspense set in a
Pennsylvania small-town. Even then, the hero, a former Navy SEAL, has just returned from overseas.
But back to Cyprus... Go for the history, and stay for the pelicans who walk up to your dinner table and ask for a piece of your fish.
Happy travels! Please friend me on Facebook and tell me about your favorite vacation.
New Release: Silent Threat - Mission Recovery Book 1
A former Navy SEAL, Cole Makani Hunter has returned home from a disastrous black ops mission without his best friend, his hearing, or the use of his right arm. So when his ex–commanding officer assigns him to an undercover mission at a rehab center for vets to discover who leaked sensitive military information to an enemy, he’d rather be anywhere but there. Almost immediately, Cole finds himself at odds with Annie Murray—a peace-loving ecotherapist whose dream is to open an animal sanctuary out of her home. While the two seemingly have nothing in common, their spirited arguments soon fuel a passion for each other.
But just as things begin to heat up between therapist and patient, dangerous complications arise. So does the past—and a shocking revelation that puts Cole and everything he now holds dear in the path of a murderous traitor.
P.S.: At the time of our trip, I had no idea I’d be writing a travel blog about it someday. So a few of the pictures have me and my daughter in it, goofing around. Sorry! I hope you don’t mind. :)
