5 Things Most People Don’t Know About Horses by Holly Castillo, Author of A SEAL Always Wins
Horses are very gentle creatures and often form deep connections with their owners/trainers
When a foal is first born, it will "imprint" on the first mammal it connects with. This is why I was present when my filly was born so she'd trust me as if I was her second Mama
Horses don't need "shoes" out in the wild; the terrain keeps their hooves trim. However, if keeping them in a barn or pasture for showing them, like me, you have to get new horse shoes every handful of weeks
A SEAL Always Wins
Texas Navy SEALs, #2
She manages to surprise him in every way that matters...
Elite Navy SEAL Enrique "Phantom" Ramirez is trained to expect the unexpected, but his growing feelings for brilliant horse trainer Elena Garcia catch him completely off guard. Phantom needs Elena's help to maintain his SEAL team's cover?more critical than ever now that they've identified a conspiracy of mysterious power brokers in both Mexico and the U.S. But how can he get her to train the ranch's quarter horses without revealing who he really is? And without revealing his need for this woman whose indomitable spirit has captured his heart...
Horses sense danger far sooner than people. They'll shy away from an area where they sense a snake, avoid a path I've later found had wild boars near it, and more. They also try not to hurt you--my mare once got startled by a plastic bag flapping in the breeze and jumped backward, knocking me to the ground. She literally danced around right above me to avoid stepping on me until I could safely roll out from under her
Every horse has its own unique personality! My first horse was a light Palomino and my hair matched her mane. She wanted to go as fast as she could (she loved racing barrels at the local rodeo, and so did I), and was so hard-headed and determined to do things her way, it felt as if I'd been cloned into horse form! But one of my geldings was completely laid back, would always choose slow and easy if possible, and enjoyed strutting his stuff at horse shows.
In short, horses are majestic creatures that are lovable and bring so much joy to life. You'll get a taste of some of the horse personalities on the Bent Horseshoe Ranch in A SEAL ALWAYS WINS.
