Sherry Scarpaci is the mother of two grown children whom she raised with greater success than her houseplants. She's also grandmother to one adorable and heart-melting little girl. Scarpaci has been writing all her life, but it wasn't until she returned to college and a teacher said, "I think you can write" that she seriously thought of trying to get published. Scarpaci's first published works were non-fiction magazine and newspaper articles. She realized her dream of seeing her first novel in print when Five Star published "Lullaby" in 2007. In October 2015, Kindle Scout released the digital version of "The 13th Victim," Scarpaci's first novel in a series featuring Detective Kate Turner. It was also a semi-finalist in the East Texas Writers Guild First Chapter Book Awards. Scarpaci's favorite pastimes are eating Twizzlers (she thinks they should be their own food group), baking, reading, and thinking up new plots and innovative ways to kill people. Scarpaci makes her home in the greater Chicagoland area where she is currently writing her next Kate Turner mystery. Visit her at www.sherryscarpaci.com.
The whispered call comes in the middle of the night: “Kate, I left a present for you at the Little River Bridge.”
Detective Kate Turner knows the meaning behind those chilling words: there’s another dead girl to haunt her dreams.
The press dubs the killer the Butcher, and the crimes are eerily similar to those committed by Christopher Long in Florida. When his grisly souvenirs show up at crime scenes fourteen hundred miles away, it appears Long’s on the hunt again—except he’s been dead nearly twenty years.
Kate’s done her homework—she knows Long worked alone. So who could possibly have his gruesome keepsakes?
The case hits close to home for Kate—too close. Now she’s on a hunt of her own, determined to catch the Butcher if it’s the last thing she does…and that’s just what the depraved killer has in mind.
