Jamie McGuire was raised in Blackwell, Oklahoma, and now resides in Enid, Oklahoma with her two young daughters. The author of the Providence series and upcoming novel Beautiful Disaster is also a graduate of Northern Oklahoma College, with an Associate degree in Applied Science in Radiography.
Enjoying writing short stories and plays since childhood, Jamie began writing Providence in January, 2009 at the insistence of her best friend, Beth. “The conversation we had is still so vivid in my memory,” Jamie said. “She wanted to start writing a blog, which I had done for years, and I was giving her advice on topics. At that point, Beth encouraged me to broaden my writing horizons. I told her about a story I had been chewing on for five years, about a man falling in love with the woman he was born to save, and the repercussions of revealing his secrets to her. Beth insisted I immediately sit down and begin writing. Eleven weeks later, I typed the words “The End”, and Providence began its journey to publication.”
Life for Jamie has been a blur after taking on the daunting task of self-publishing Providence. With the help and advice of friends and fellow authors, and medium-run printing company Central Plains Book of Arkansas City, Kansas, Jamie achieved her goal. The next hurdle is to see Providence in every brick-and- mortar book retailer in Oklahoma, after that, the goal is to see the novel on shelves nationwide. “I’ll get there,” Jamie says with a smile.
