THOMAS FLARETY KNOWS that magic is real. Few believe in it, fewer can use it — and as far as Thomas knows, he’s the only one who can see it.
The duchy of Frostmire to the north is under siege. No one knows the identity of the raiders, only that they wield powerful magic. Thomas’s friend Henry, son of the duke, convinces Thomas to leave his studies and travel to Frostmire’s aid. But the church has also taken an interest in the rumours of “witchcraft” in the north. And the Envoy to the Archbishop is as interested in Thomas as he is in the enemy.
Thomas’s investigation draws him ever farther from Eileen, the girl he loves, and closer to being hunted, himself. Thomas must figure out who the raiders are and how to stop them before he loses Eileen, before the Envoy takes matters into his own hands, and before all of Frostmire is destroyed.
