Jazz/R&B artist Barbara Reed composes and records original music as well as standards, then takes her talent to the mystery-suspense realm with her highly-acclaimed novel series which includes "Harmonic Deception" and "High Notes Are Murder."
Her most recent book, "Harmonic Deception" opens on the star-studded night of Liz's CD release party. She faces a brutal female gang member who believes that Liz shot and crippled her brother, causing their lives to spiral downward. In a showdown with the girl, Liz unravels the girl's skewed logic, but discovers a thirst for revenge she didn't realize she had.
Uniquely talented in both music and storytelling, Reed develops memorable characters for the screen and her novels. In this series, she takes the viewer closer to protagonist Liz Hanlon--also a singer & songwriter--by recording Liz's "Live Concerts" herself. Reed recently released her latest CD, "On Stage," which includes several original songs written for and about the characters in the novels.
In "High Notes Are Murder," Liz discovers her cousin's body at the foot of the stage where she is to perform and exposes a mob heist from twenty-five years ago. And then another surprise: the connection of her favorite uncle to the infamous crime.
Barbara Reed is a professional musician and writer, and a former journalist. As a life-long professional musician, she has performed as lead vocalist and/or keyboardist throughout the U.S. and Japan, composed and recorded dozens of songs, including all titles for "This Was Meant To Be," and the "High Notes Are Murder Soundtrack." As part of the Dodger Stadium "house band" her performances include the Dodger Stadium Club, Staples Center, trade shows, festivals, as well as numerous corporate events, major hotels and nightclubs.
Tonight's performance could make Liz Hanlon's music career. For Liz, the night is magical until three teenage girls in outlandish disguises burst into the LA nightclub with assault weapons. Within minutes, two hundred patrons are stripped of their cell phones and valuables, one man is dead, and two others are wounded. As the robbers make their getaway, the shooter's belligerent remarks let Liz know this is more than a random attack . . . and she is the target.
Desperate to expose the shooter before she attacks again, Liz seeks help from an eccentric investigator and her brother, an attorney, but neither they nor the police detectives believe the crime was personal.
Her debut is on hold, her love life in a tailspin. She devises a perilous plan to draw the shooter out of hiding, but the girl makes a counterattack and when face to face, Liz's desire for revenge forces her to make a choice.
By morning, it's over, or so it seems. But an unresolved issue from the past comes to light and it changes everything . . .
