• Review: Protecting What's His Line of Duty, #1

Ginger grew up way too early. She had to. Her mother was worthless, her father non-existent, and she had a little sister to feed and protect. There is nothing Ginger wouldn’t do for her little sister and she’s proven it over and over. Now she’s doing...

  • Review: Lady in Red A Novel of Mad Passions, #2

I loved the darker Victorian setting of this book! Like book one this book was amazing! Unlike book one though this one held on tight until the last page! Mary manages to escape the asylum only to find that her life once again is in the hands of a man...

  • Review: Come Fly With Me An Alaskan Nights Novel, #2

Come Fly With Me is the second book in Addison Fox’s Alaskan Night series. I would categorize this book as a woman’s coming-of-age tale rather than a romance. The romance between Grier Thompson and Mick O’Shaughnessy starts when they have already met...

  • Review: Immortally Ever After Monster Mash, #3

This has to be the most interesting war series that I’ve ever read. Set in purgatory with tons of paranormal creatures, Ms Fox mixes romance and humor into life and death situations. The gods are fighting and have been for centuries but the armies are...

  • Review: Daughter of Phalon Phalon #1

Daughter of Phalon has an interesting premise, and handled well for a debut book/author. I enjoyed the author’s obvious delight in creating the story world and the characters. Humans and aliens are always an interesting mix. I’m looking forward to more...

  • Review: Cosmos' Promise Cosmos' Gateway Book 4

If you have not read the three previous books you need to stop right now. This is a well-written intricate series of books that pick up where the previous book left off, so it is definitely not a standalone. Cosmos made an appearance in the first and...

  • Review: Losing Control Babysitting a Billionaire, #1

"Losing Control" by Nina Croft was one of the best contemporary romance novels that I have read in a long time. This heroine had come out of a bad marriage, death of her mother, had no close relations with her father, but now was she was on the road to...

  • Review: Not Until You Part VIII: Not Until You Love

This was a searingly emotional culmination to a wonderfully well-written story that tortured the reader by doling out a segment at a time but was well worth the wait. The intense finale provides a cathartic resolution to several issues even as it dangles...

  • Review: Because of Rebecca

Rebecca Davis' life is one built on, and shaped by the secrets that she keeps. There is just one problem with that however. The secrets...are not hers to keep. Because of Rebecca offers so much more story than one is used to in Southern-based Historical...

  • Review: The Wife He Always Wanted A School For Brides Romance

Do not think that the brevity of this summary in any way paints this book in any negative fashion. On the contrary it was purposely vague and therefore anything but long winded. This book stands on its own merit and I intentionally avoided giving away...

Love Is the Punch Line by Kathleen Jones

HE COURTED HER WITH PUNCH LINES.

Middle-aged stand-up comedian Josh Steinberg, formerly the star of his own popular TV series, finds himself struggling to keep his career alive, playing seedier and seedier clubs. Plump, balding, and plain-looking, he has never had much luck with women. That is, until Josh meets Holly Brannigan while performing his stand-up act in a comedy club. Holly, an attractive, intelligent, and divorced 50-year-old businesswoman, becomes instantly smitten with Josh and even finds his unconventional looks wildly sexy.

The lonely and vulnerable Josh soon falls in love with Holly, even though she’s not the statuesque type he usually goes for. But Josh, terrified of being hurt and discarded by yet another woman, hides his true feelings for Holly by making fun of her in his stand-up act. And Holly, taking Josh’s words to heart, starts to wonder if she means anything to him at all.
