A wonderful story about a Marine returning home that touched my heart. This is the seventh in a series within a series. The main series is 1 Night Stand, a dating service for 1 night stands. However, Ms Long has a wonderful series going on within about the members of a company of Marines. They do not need to be read in order though occasionally characters from one story will show up in another. That is not the case with The Marine Cowboy, except for a brief phone call from his former commanding officer.
Okay, so why was it so wonderful. A.J. is the perfect combination on Marine and cowboy. He’s comfortable in his skin and confident in his skills. He’s returned home to enough the quiet and relax in good hard ranch work. He wants and expects no fanfare. Sheri is equally a perfect character. She’s left the big city and cooperate life to enjoy small town living and working in the public library. Though life has kicked her around, she’s still dreaming, of a man like those in her romance novels. As A.J. puts it, sexy and sensible. Neither really expected a date through 1 Night Stand and both were attracted to each other prior to 1 Night Stand setting them up on a date. You can’t get better than that. I felt this story was absolutely perfect.
Turning down a billet at Mike's Place in Dallas, Sergeant A.J. Turner left Iraq for Freewill, Wyoming with one goal in mind—to forget the last five years. Trading his MARPATS for jeans and his cover for a cowboy hat, he plans to work his ranch and pray the green grass, tall trees, and sweet mountains can wash away the taste of the desert.
The last thing he expected was a reminder of a promise made to his buddies: one night to help them all start again.
Sheri Vaughn quit her corporate job, sold her house and moved to Freewill on a whim. Six months after her divorce, she's hardly ready to put her toe in the dating waters again. One bottle of wine later, however, she signs up for Madame Eve's exclusive 1Night Stand service and lists a very particular set of qualities she wants in a man; he must be honorable, courageous, forthright, single, have served as Marine, but be a cowboy at heart. If she wants to dream, at least she can dream big.
But when local hero A.J. Turner arrives home, Madame Eve comes through, and Sheri has to find the courage to make her dream a reality…
Can one night, even a night arranged by Madame Eve, fulfill both a promise and a dream?
