Political intrigue in the nation’s capital is the backdrop of this thoroughly enjoyable murder mystery. DC was once known as the murder capital of the nation, and the murders don’t stop for holidays. Clashes between Sam’s desire to continue working as a homicide LT, and the security that the White House wants for her as the vice-president’s wife, become a major problem. Plus, someone is out to cause problems for Sam’s department. Personal, professional, and everything in-between, seems to crash, with chaos evolving. It’s as if nothing is going to work smoothly, and this book only covers about 48 hours! With everything that is going on, it’s almost impossible to put this book down. You’re never sure where the twists and turns are going to take you, and usually it’s not where you expect. Emotionally charged and yet deliciously romantic, Sam and Nick need to work their way through their jobs, their marriage, and an adoption. I so recommend this book and this series as it’s the perfect mesh of mystery and romance.
This book is part of Marie Force’s 'Fatal' series. Each book can be read by itself, but together this is one action-packed and romantic series that has you counting days until the next book comes out.
It’s New Year’s Day when the phone call comes. Another murder, but this one seems to be directed at framing Gonzo, Sam’s second in command, and good friend. Quickly, things go from normal to chaos. Who is doing this and why? Nick is starting his term as vice president, but it seems now that he has the position, the president doesn’t want anything to do with him. What is that about? And, when a private investigator locates Scotty’s biological father, what is this going to do to Scotty's adoption plans? What a way to start off a new year!
Book 8 of the Fatal series from New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Marie Force
As a new year dawns in the capital city, dual scandals rock the Metropolitan Police Department—and Lieutenant Sam Holland is right in the middle of them. Chief Farnsworth is catching heat for the way he handled a recent homicide investigation, and Detective Gonzales is accused of failing to disclose an earlier connection to the judge who decided his custody hearing.
When Gonzo's fight for his child turns deadly and he has a shaky alibi, Sam must defend two of her closest colleagues. All while her husband, Vice President Nick Cappuano, settles into his new office at the White House.
Nick begins to wonder if the president is using him for a political boost, and his worries mount over a complication in the plans to adopt Scotty at a time when Sam is being put through the wringer by the always-rabid DC press corps. As the evidence against Gonzo piles up, Sam suspects someone is gunning for her—and her team.
