Howdy, Ma'am

Bull Rider, #1

Just thinking of Howdy Ma’am makes me smile. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would be hard-pressed not to as a serious cowboy lover. As I am a visual person, Viela was portrayed as Catherine Zeta-Jones and Caulder was a most handsome Jimmy Thomas. That right there is enough to make a person smile. But what about the storyline? How did it hold up and was it worth your time?

The Good: Ms. McCoy-Dressel is one clever writer. She managed to keep parts of the backstory hidden almost to the very end, a skill I hope to one day master. The hero and heroine were both hurting, with scabs not scars, and they needed healing. I loved how they provided that for one another. The absolute best part was the emotional connection between Caulder and Viela. The quote the author used at the very beginning, said so much about the story - “You will not find a soulmate in the quiet of your room. You must go to a noisy place and look in the quiet corners.”

By Robert Brault

The Bad: For the first half of the book, the passage of time felt very choppy and at times confusing. As the story went on however, it not only smoothed out but it flowed perfectly.

The Snuggly: The Snuggly in this book was delicious. It ran the gamut from sexy smirks, smiles and winks, to soul searching gazes, to tender embraces, branding hot kisses and sexual intimacy that will make you want to scream along with the characters. Several cold showers will come in handy and I will never look at hotel bathroom Jacuzzi the same again. ;) 18 and over only.

Ms. McCoy-Dressel amazingly took a basic topic – a cowboy and a love story – and made it completely unique and surprising. Who would have thought to include not only a photographer but an abused, feisty Italian who truly is a strong female character, the Mob, and wealth? I loved it! I am thrilled that the author is hard at work on the next book in the series and that it will continue the wonderful story of Viela and Caulder for as she said, their story has just begun. Romance lovers across the genres will appreciate and enjoy Howdy Ma’am.
