"Untamed Hunger" is my first book by Dee Carney. I am absolutely impressed with her writing. Dee's writing is very expressive, in-depth and very visual. Dee had me caught up in the story-line within the first paragraph, and by the end of the chapter I was part of her story.
Dee's story is simply amazing and flows with ease. Her plot is deep and thick. Each character within the story are quite unique and very relatable, with some more personally relatable.
Lucy Drake, Courtesan, branded with a glyph that identified Lucy as a blood slave. Both Lucy and her sister Cindy were pulled into the service as children.
Victor Collins, vampire mercenary. He'd take any job for the highest bounty. Lucy needed Victors help to take down a Vampire Councilman. Victor rejected the job but then he relinquished. He would help her prepare to take down the councilman for a bounty of booty for as long as the training period takes to complete her mission.
I loved the fact that Lucy was a courtesan with a vengeance for the death of her sister. Strong of will and determination. Lucy did not want Victor to do the deed of killing councilman Sage. That would be her victory, but she needed him to have her back, and if something happened to her then to finish the job. In the end Lucy agreed to the booty for bounty with only one restriction "no fangs." Victor was not allowed to bite and feed off Lucy.
I am pleased with the imperfections of Victor. He doesn't carry the inherent beauty of the vampires
I also liked seeing the approach that Dee had written in her script that victor took with Lucy. How each night during training Victor would make bets with Lucy. For example the first night if Lucy just tagged Victor with the tip of a stick she'd win and he'd get just a kiss.
It was amazing watching how the relationship slowly built and how they came to depend on one another. There are so many twists and turns within the story-line and seeing the plot thicken and explode on Victor. It simply is a most astounding book and so much contained in it that I don't want to give away too much when just about anything I say can give away something.
"Hunger Untamed" is pure genius. I cannot wait to read the other books in this series. I look forward to seeing how Dee works out the full story-line and plot.
There is plenty of violence and passion and an amazing story that I left out. I would encourage everyone to pick up a copy.
