Lord Alexander "Alexi" Huntington (Deveyois) has been looking for Angelica for over ten years. Since they were children discovering that peerage doesn't always dictate love, than being ripped apart by forced that they couldn't control Alex promised he would come back for her and finally he has. It has taken him ten years, a lifetime for most, to find the woman who stole his heart and claim her for his own. But has time actually been an enemy to this young love? Has life finally gotten in the way, or will his return be the thing to bring Angelica back to life, back to his heart?
Angelica can't believe he is finally here, but it must be a dream, because after ten years of hell he must not want her at all. Since the tender age of 16, Angelica knew that she loved Alexi with her whole heart, and the idea that he was just a simple carpenter never even entered into her mind. But after they are caught together, and she is married off to another, Alexi swore to come for her. But the other has never been kind, and has slowly killed her spirit. But even the dream of Alexi finally coming for her, makes everything seem possible. But will Alexi want her once he discovers the hell she has been through, and will Angie be able to accept him back into her heart and life after all this time apart?
This was actually an interesting book, that ended not at all like I expected it to end. With the death of one man, the murder of an investigator, and the admittance of molestation, the idea that these two were able to get past all of that for each other is amazing. It seems that if though life was determined to pull Alexi and Angie apart, their hearts keep bringing them back to each other. I was pleasantly surprised at the ending, since several times in the book I wondered if an HEA was possible for these two. I will definitely keep on the lookout for Elyzabeth M. VaLey; she is a great author that kept the book going without being predictable. Her characters were very believable and she knows how to let the characters tell the story, instead of forcing the reader to do all the work. This is a book that just about everyone will love.
Angelica and Alexander fell in love at a young age. Unfortunately, their love is doomed since the beginning. Forcibly separated, Angelica is obligated to marry another man at her father's convenience while Alexander is prohibited from ever seeking her out again.
Ten years later, however, Alexander is no longer the callow boy he used to be. Now an influential gentleman, he is bent on recovering the only woman he has ever loved. No matter the cost. But has their love withstood the ravages of time?
