Current Release: Dawn of a Dark Knight
Describe your current release in two sentences?
Dr. Kira Hardy jeopardizes her brilliant medical career to save Ashor Vlahos, Scimitar Magi commander, after a brutal daemon attack. Their attraction is instant and, for Ashor, forbidden. As an ancient nemesis resurfaces and targets Kira, they face a crucial decision – follow the gods’ rules or follow their hearts.
What have you had to give up to pursue your writing career?
My life before writing was hectic between being a full-time vet and having a family with a young son. Once I started writing, I gave up free time. Every free minute I spend typing. But I’ve never been happier.
What are you working on?
I’m wrapping up the sequel to Dawn of a Dark Knight, which will the second in the Scimitar Magus series. This sequel is deliciously exciting. There’s a new guy with an eons old curse that forces he and the woman he loves to kill each other within days of meeting in each lifetime. The newbies are screwing up, as usual. And all the guys from the first book are back for a new adventure.
What is your ultimate writing goal?
To have my book made into a blockbuster movie? Wouldn’t that be great? For me, though, writing is about getting those characters and stories out of my head and into words.
Do you have a comfort food? What is it?
Butterfinger…especially those little hearts and bells that come out for holidays.
Where is your favorite place to write?
Anyplace quiet. I’m lucky to snag an hour in a busy day to type some words. Most of my writing happens at night in the kitchen after it’s been shut down for the day.
What career fields have you worked in?
I haven’t bumped around much with regard to careers. I’ve been a full-time veterinarian for over a decade. Vet by day and writer by night. Some people wear capes and save worlds at night. I have a laptop and create worlds…I’d say my way is a bit less life threatening, but equally heroic.
What are your plans for the next year? Any books you are looking forward to?
The next few months may prove to be busy with the release of Dawn of a Dark Knight. And its sequel in editing. I hope to get away for a summer trip to South Africa with my family this summer. Hopefully, some of my fav authors will have new releases this year.
How was your road to publication?
Took a few years to get Dawn of a Dark Knight right before submitting. And, once accepted, I had a fantastic editor, Eilidh MacKenzie who helped me work to tighten and strengthen the book, which was a tough, but ultimately rewarding process.
If you could time travel, where would you travel to and why?
Love love love to see ancient Egypt. To be able to see those now almost rubble pyramids alive with people and in their glory would be a dream. But I wouldn’t want to stay. Just have a little look-see.
