Hi Maya! I hear you have a vampire book to share with us today. What is "A Vampire's Tale" about?

A Vampire’s Tale focuses on heroine Marisa Clements who is a struggling writer. Unknown to her, a paranormal skeptic, a vampire has been influencing her life path. This is not any ordinary vampire. Corgan Halton is ancient and powerful with the ability to see the future. He wants to tell his story and end his life. He chooses Marisa to author his tale. But his presence in her life puts her into danger, the helpless target for Corgan's enemies. It takes a coordinated group (of wizards and vampires) effort to fight the enemy. During the progression of the story, Marisa and Corgan fall in love - the emotions intensified by the high-pressure, dangerous situation they find themselves in.

What is your writing place like?

In the winter, I write in my home office, a purple, feminine oasis in a house full of men (husband, two sons, even a male dog). In the non-winter months, I write outside in the space we call "the family room" which is an open air gazebo filled with living room style red cushion-covered, dark brown wicker furniture. It's my writing spot.

Do you have any kids? Has your writing inspired them to read / write?

I have two kids, boys aged six and eight. They are both learning to read (in English and French). Reading is still "homework" to them, but I hope to pass on my love of books. Someday. My oldest is very artistic and he writes stories and illustrates them. My youngest loves "making" books (pages of white paper stapled together), usually one word per page with an abstract drawing so I encourage him to write at least a sentence per page. He's getting there.

What's next for you as an author?

I feel inspired to write a sequel for my latest release, A Vampire's Tale. So, we'll see. Also, I've been working on a prequel for my debut novella Dream Hunter.

Tell us something interesting about yourself.

My favourite colour is blue, although purple is a close second. I enjoy eating, but I still can't settle on a favourite food. All I want for my birthday is a cake, any kind of cake, except chocolate (I'm allergic).

At what point did you know you wanted to publish a book?

I have been an avid reader from the moment I could read. I started writing shortly after that, and I spent most of my pre-university years dreaming of becoming a published author. So, life intervenes and the seductive lure of a sensible job with a regular paycheque beckons... until the old dreams re-emerge (in my case while I was on maternity leave with my second son). I always loved writing. I finished short stories and poems, but I hadn't written a novel length book at that point. So, I decided I would write a book and get it published.

Is there a book you would recommend to other authors / aspiring authors to help them with their writing?

I would absolutely recommend The Emotion Thesaurus:

A Writer's Guide to Character Expression by Becca Puglisi & Angela Ackerman

View More by This Author. My editor recommended I read it when I was struggling with the age-old "show versus tell" dilemma in some of my scenes. I found this book not only useful for writing, but also reverse-engineering my own emotions.

What genres do you write in and what inspired you to write in these genres?

I write paranormal romance. Romance because I am a completely hopeless romantic who grew up dreaming of a Disney-esque Prince Charming. I believe books should end with a happily-ever-after (a happy-for-now is even a stretch) and that's the way I write. Paranormal because I have a hugely overactive imagination and this genre allows me to stretch the boundaries of reality in a whole new way.

Thanks for coming and visiting with us.

Thank you so much for this interview. It's been great. Readers, if you enjoy paranormal romance, please look out for my book "A Vampire's Tale" (it's available for pre-sale now).
