Hi Dena! Thanks for visiting with us today and sharing your current release, "When Ash Remains". What is the story about?
When Ash Remains is about a warrior who seeks who or what ever slaughtered his cousin. During his search he meets an unusual woman from another tribe who can supposedly talk with spirits. They are an unlikely pairing since he doesn’t believe in anything he can’t see or touch, and therefore hunt. As they work together to find the killer they fall in love.
What is your writing place like?
Mobile. LOL. I work on a laptop so I can move around where ever I need to. Most of the time I work on the couch in my living room while my boys play video games or do homework.
If your home a place of order or chaos?
Depends on whether or not my boys are home. Mostly order and calm, but 2 teenage boys tend to upset that apple cart!
When it comes to your first draft, do you write via computer or notepad? or Both?
Computer. I've gotten to the point where it feels weird to hand write my drafts. And I am way too dependent on spell-check.
Do you have any kids? Has your writing inspired them to read / write?
Yes - I have 2 boys (both teens). My oldest was always a good reader but at 17 he doesn't really pay attention to my writing. My youngest is 13 and he's a good sounding board. He likes to tell people he helped me write Ghostly Persuasion because he helped me brainstorm the black moment scene. LOL
What's next for you as an author?
I'm currently working on a steampunk romance for an anthology then I will be doing another sci-fi romance.
Do you like to cook?
NO! As a matter of fact I burn most of what I attempt to cook. My attention span is just too short for it.
Do you have a newsletter? If yes, where can readers sign up?
Do you have any pets? If yes, do your pets play a part in your writing?
I do - I have an older Labrador Retriever mix and 2 orange tabbies (brothers - also known as "the fuzzy jerks"). Other than keeping me company, giving me cuddles, and breaking stuff, they don't really play a part in my writing. One day I might put one of them in book though.
What's your favorite restaurant?
I don't really have one favorite - it usually depends on what I want at the time. We do eat at Cracker Barrel a lot though - home style veggies!
At what point did you know you wanted to publish a book?
When I joined Romance Writers of America about ten years ago. At least that's when I made the commitment to learn what I could about the industry and get serious about my efforts.
What is our favorite drink?
Iced green tea
Do you feel music has inspired your writing?
Yes. The idea for my sci-fi romance, Rege's Rescue, came from Five Finger Death Punch's remake of House of the Rising Sun. I have several songs that make me think of characters in books I am writing or have written.
What's your day job like?
I'm a Process Improvement Consultant. That means I go into various departments to help them identify places they can make improvements, find inefficiencies, or implement controls.
Is there a book you would recommend to other authors / aspiring authors to help them with their writing?
Stephen King's On Writing.
What place is on the top of your to travel to list?
Do you have any books that are on your must read bucket list?
I'd love to read all of the literary classics.
What genres do you write in and what inspired you to write in these genres?
I write romance - contemporary, paranormal, fantasy, sci-fi, and now a mix of historical/paranormal. That's what I read, I write in them too.
