The Men of the FAST Unit? WASP by Fiona Quinn
I love to write about men of internal and external strength. I find that nothing personifies the qualities of valor quite like American Special Forces operators: Seals, Delta Force, the Green Berets. In my latest book, WASP, the first of the Uncommon Enemies series, I focused on the special skillsets held by Gage Harrison a Marine Raider.
If you haven’t heard about Marine Raiders, I’m not surprised. This elite branch of the United Sates Marine Corps was created by an order from FDR, and they performed some of the riskier missions in WWII. After that war, they were decommissioned but brought back again under the name MARSOC—Marines’ Special Operations Command—to fight terror following 9-11.
In 2014, they changed their name; these elite fighters are once again called Marine Raiders. They’re fighting capabilities are in direct action and special reconnaissance. They carry out raids on insurgents and terrorists, and train foreign militaries. Like the special operators in the other military branches, to be a Marine Raider a Marine must go through a rigorous and competitive selection process that includes tests in swimming, hiking, and specialized combat.
See Gage’s special Marine Raider skills put to the test as he fights to save the life of his girlfriend Zoe Kealoha in WASP.
WASP - Uncommon Enemies Book 1
Why is Zoe hiding beneath her bed?
Zoe Kealoha is a military research scientist. Her work is aimed at saving lives. Then why are there intruders looking for her inside her very own home. Most friends yawn at Zoe’s conversations about macrobiotics. It must have struck a nerve with someone, and they don’t sound friendly at all. As she hears the heavy crunch of footfalls creep closer, she realizes her quiet, orderly world is about to be upended.
Unlike Zoe’s orderly world of hypothesis and laboratory-controlled environments, Gage Hamilton loves the rush of risk. A member of the Marine’s elite FAST unit, Gage is a warrior in every sense of the word. His soft spot is Zoe.
When he hears desperate screams from inside her home, his instinct and training switch from lover to guardian. He’ll stop at nothing to save her from whatever evil lurks behind her bedroom door.
While Gage may have thwarted an attempt on Zoe’s life, he recognizes the skill of the men sent to abduct her. They, like he, were trained killers. And Gage knows they’ll be back.
Who is after Zoe and what does she know that’s worth abducting her? Gage and his team are willing to risk everything to protect Zoe. If her research is that vital to saving lives, she and Gage will stop at nothing to untangle the sticky web of intrigue traps politicians, lovers, schemers, spies, and those willing to put money over loyalty.
Meet Brian Ackerman. He wears a tie to work. He also wears a gun.
Brian’s work as one of the nation’s top security professionals has fueled his lust for adrenaline-laced danger. While Brian’s private life may seem reckless, his professional life is strictly business. Until he accepts two private protection contracts that is.
Two security contracts seem simple enough. Brian’s been wrong before.
The first assignment involves protecting archaeologists Dr. Sophia Abadi and Dr. Nadia Dajani while the women dig to uncover a remote site. A bit mundane by Brian’s standard, but he could use the pay and the travel.
The second assignment requires Brian to do his own digging to uncover the truth. The thrill seeker is contracted by the FBI to discover who is financing ISIS through the sale of conflict relics from Syria. Problem is, the suspects are also archaeologists Dr. Sophia Abadi and Dr. Nadia Dajani.
Brian is a professional. The truth is always clear cut. Brian’s been wrong before.
His initial introductions to both esteemed scientists not only reveal the challenges of protecting them, but a shocking dilemma of honoring his security contract. Seems the woman he’d fallen for after one incredible night in New York is the very same Dr. Sophia Abadi he’s now charged with protecting and leading into an FBI trap.
Meet Brian Ackerman. He has a gun. He also has a heart.
A deadly foreign crisis looms. It’s effect threatens to vibrate across the globe. The world’s most elite scientists have assembled in Tanzania to work on an impossible resolution. It’s an epic, humanitarian cause.
Heightening the risk to the cadre of scientists focused on providing a solution, notorious terrorists have selectively targeted key players among the team. One of the central researchers, Meg Finley not only holds the key to the solution, but to the heart of another type of hero.
Rooster Honig, former United States Army Delta operative, and renowned hostage negotiator, is caught in the global war on terror’s net. It’s up to him to protect the captives. But negotiating from a position of unknowns makes his task even more difficult. The terrorists’ demands teeter between profit and propaganda. If he guesses wrong it might mean lives—especially his true love, Meg Finley.
