Miss Cecilia Hastings could be what is called an over achiever. It’s her first season and she’s caught the attention of two high titled men. She’s also all that one could hope for in her manner and her dress. Given all this, one would expect that Cecilia would be extremely happy but she has a problem. Her problem is her expectations on what she wants in a marriage. Until she has a solution, she’s not making a decision.
Jeremy Battersley, Earl of Henley, and Richard Huxley, Duke of Wexford have been friends since childhood. They attended the same school and formed a friendship that has spanned into adulthood. They fought in the war together and have survived social seasons together. Who would have thought that they would fall in love during the same season and to the same girl! Can their friendship remain solid as they try to win Cecilia’s heart?
Cecilia knows her plan is bold and if it gets out, could ruin her socially yet she has to try. She hopes one of the gentlemen will accept her invitation. After all, how can she marry someone she hasn’t even kissed? She saw the cut at the ball and knows that Jeremy and Richard are on the outs so what would the chances be that they even knew that the other got the same invitation?
She’ll find out when they show up together and agree to her scandalous suggestion. Will it be everything she dreamed of or will her dreams come crashing down?
This is not your typical Regency romance so if this is what you are looking for just skip this story. This story has unexpected twists and some extremely hot scenes. It’s anything except typical.
Though most of the story feels as if it’s being narrative, it is only to give you lots of information that is needed to make this short story work. Without the background information, this story would miss some essential elements.
And this is a fairly short story. There are few major scenes but those scenes are packed with action. From a formal ballroom to picking up a prostitute on the street, things change in seconds and these characters keep the reader wondering.
The characters are interesting. Jeremy and Richard are so close that they can almost read each other’s minds. Though they each want the same woman and know that one will be disappointed, they also know that they can not loose their friendship as it means so much to each of them. Cecilia has a daring streak in her that she keeps carefully hidden. She knows what she is suppose to do and usually does it but when she’s looking at her future, she wants to have some sort of say in it. This daring streak may get her in trouble though!
The sex scenes are highly erotic and sensual. Quite frankly, I loved them and I wanted to be Cecilia! Though they are extremely explicit, they are also tasteful. No porn here, just a really good story writer.
If the modern world is getting to you and you need a break, step back into this Regency romance. It’s so short that you can finish it in an afternoon yet it’s got a lot of intense loving in those few words. However, don’t even think to read this book if you expect a demure female lead and a limp male because that is so not going to be on these pages!
