Silver Mine

Takhini Wolves, Book 2

I loved this book. "Silver Mine" is the second book in Vivien Arend’s Tikhini Wolves series. It tells the story of Chase Johnson & Shelley Bradley. Chase is a cross-breed (Metis) wolf/cougar shifter. He is also the unofficial Alpha leader of his pack of outcast shifters... most of whom are semi reclusive preferring to live alone in the bush. Last but certainly not least, he is one gorgeous Alpha shifter. My own personal favorite type of man! Shelley is a latent wolf shifter. She would be my favorite type of heroine. The kick*** female with a switch-blade kind of heroine. Yeah, she's got a lot of baggage... being alienated from her pack (different Alpha) because she is a latent shifter. She is a vet/shifter doctor who treats Chase for an injury that refuses to heal. The pair set off into the bush to investigate the problem hoping to find a cure for Chase. They discover that there is a mysterious outbreak among the shifter community. Together they face outstanding odds... crazed shifters, mystery diseases, and aggressive bear shifters. They are not mates but somewhere along the way they fall in love. The author infuses the story with a snarky sense of humor. I couldn't help but laugh when Shelley called the Tikhini Alpha a grand pooh-bah and the big cheese. That cracked me up. Chases using of duct tape to teach the juvenile wolf shifter a lesson was pretty cool too. There are lots of other humorous moments. Enigma the domestic alpha kitten indulged in a few funny antics. I love a story that can make me laugh along with giving me a great love story. This book certainly did that. It was very well written. Of course, Vivien Arend’s books are always extremely well written. No surprise there. I’m a BIG fan of all her books although I am new to this particular series. I will now have to read book number one, "Black Gold".

Book Blurb for Silver Mine

If a tree falls in the forest, duck…

Life in isolation is the safest place for Chase Johnson, a crossbreed who doesn’t know which form he’ll assume next—cougar or wolf. Once a year, his unelected position as spokesman for the Yukon outcasts forces him to visit civilization. This time he runs across someone unexpected. She’s not his mate, but she pushes all the right buttons.

It’s taken years for Shelley Bradley to gather the courage to return to her home pack. In spite of being the lowest of the low—a shifter who can’t shift—she’s determined to make a place for herself as the Whitehorse locals’ new vet-slash-doctor.

There’s definite electricity between her and Chase, but sex with fellow shifters and the inherent mind games got old a long time ago. Ignoring him seems best. When he shows up at her office with a wound that won’t heal, she’s stuck—yet drawn to solve this medical mystery.

As they journey deep into outcast territory in search of answers, their powerful sexual attraction crumbles her resistance. But time is of the essence. If a cure can’t be found before his human and cougar succumb to his injury, he—and others like him—will die.

Warning: Contains a silver-tongued, hairy-chested, lean-muscled Alpha who’s got what it takes to lead in the wilderness and in the bedroom. Yeah, I know…not really much of a deterrent, is it? Throw in continuing territorial wars and a domestic cat. Stir and enjoy the chaos.
