A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Vee

At a gaming conference, Joel meets his online buddy Sam. Only Sam isn't a man, Sam's a drop-dead gorgeous woman. Quickly, Sam explains why she'd been parading as a man online: to avoid harassment from the male gamers. In fact the only reason she'd risked her real identity by coming to the conference was to meet Joel in person.

Joel, who's put off initially, recovers and he and Sam start a relationship offline. Even though Sam knows Joel isn't like her past boyfriends, she worries that he'll brag about their sexual relationship, thereby ruining her fake online persona.

That's not the only problem; another female gamer has her sights set on Joel. What happens when Sam's worries get the best of her and the jealous other woman intervenes?

I enjoyed Geek Love partly because I have a wonderfully geeky husband. Not only that, it was enjoyable insight into the world of gaming and gaming conferences.

I conflict between Joel and Sam was too weak and resolved too early. I also found it strange that the two had become so close online, to the point of daily and nightly contact, without hope of a romantic connection on Joel's part.

That said, both Sam and Joel are likable characters and there were some lovely sex scenes. I loved all the geeky references to science fiction movies.

Book Blurb for Geek Love

When Joel goes to a science fiction/gaming convention, he never expects to meet the woman of his dreams. But when he finds out a gaming buddy he’s never met is there, that’s exactly what happens.

Sam got tried of being a woman in the gaming communities, so she adopted a male persona to play--only now she has to make that lie up to her best friend Joel, who she’s spent many a night chatting with online. She doesn’t think anything that happens onscreen could be real but things sure heat up when she meets the man she considers a buddy.

Amidst science fiction regulars and popular shows and movie fans, Sam and Joel try to get to know each other beyond their gaming names and have a wild night together.

When another online woman sets her sights on Joel and is willing to do anything to get him, Sam is caught in the crossfire. Will she ever be able to reconcile herself to geek love becoming real?
