Christopher, Chris Beckett is a cursed wizard. A few generations ago his great grandfather broke his engagement with a witch in order to marry another. In anger, that witch cursed the Beckett’s causing them to change into wolves. Over the generations, they learned how to live with the wolf but the need to change is still in them and the wolf is always near.
Chris has decided that he needs a mate and does a spell that will bring her to him. He’s not exactly sure when or how. He’s put his desires into the spell but he will rejoice with whomever he is sent.
Alannah, Lana Evans is a powerful witch and the granddaughter of her coven’s leader. She was on her way home from a party when her car broke down. Of course, it was in the middle of nowhere and of course, it had to be raining. Following her instincts Lana walks away from the direction she came from and ends up in some woods. There she can sense someone wanting to do evil and someone offering safety. To pick wrong will mean her death.
Chris couldn’t believe that his mate is a witch. Wizards and witches do not usually get along. They look at magic too differently. Still, he had asked for a mate from a powerful family and that’s what he got, if he can save her from his enemy, Cole.
Cole and Chris have fought since childhood. Chris doesn’t understand why Cole just won’t drop it but he won’t. Now, he’s after Chris’s mate, which is just too much for any wolf to allow.
This is an interesting story that had me hooked for almost the beginning.
The characters are strong, opinionated and interesting. Our introduction to Lana has a humorous note as she compares her situation with horror movies. Chris comes across as a caring guy who just wants someone to love and understand him. He’s a little confused that he’s suppose to do the same thing back. Lana has an interesting time convincing him that her magic is just as strong as his, just different. Chris’s three brothers join the mix with the oldest being way over protective and the youngest and weakest wizard more happy go lucky. Lana’s best friend makes an appearance and attracts the attention of one of Chris’s brothers. And our bad guy, Cole...he’s a bit strange.
The sex is hot and heavy as Chris works on getting Lana to agree to be his mate. Wolves mate for life so she won’t have to worry about Chris ever straying but Lana wants some time to think about this. With Cole after them though, she’s not going to have much time before she needs to make a commitment. In the meantime, she sure is having a good time in bed!
I really enjoyed this story. It looks to be a set up for a series which is fine by me as I loved all the Beckett brothers. This story kept my interest and I was really upset that I couldn’t stay awake long enough to finish it. No matter what was going on, it kept my attention and I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. Now, that I’ve finished the story, I still want to know what next!
Magical in more ways than one, this story is worth reading.
Christopher Beckett is tired of being alone. His wolf is howling for his mate, and Chris knows it is only a matter of time before his needs override everything else in his life. He casts the spell all the Becketts have used to call their mates to them. What he wants is a woman of an older lineage and power equal to his own. And she has to accept the one aspect that sets him apart from almost every other wizard: his wolf.
What Chris gets is Alannah Evans, a powerful witch of the Evans Coven. The petite, dark-haired woman has no problem with the wolf. What she does have a problem with is the fact that Chris is a wizard. Since wizards and witches don’t get along very well, neither should they, but the sparks flying between them can’t be denied. Chris isn’t taking no for an answer. When it becomes clear that an old enemy has targeted them both, Chris will engage his enemy in a duel that could cost him his life.
Or worse: Lana.
