A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Robin
Tara Reeves, a Louisiana State Police Trooper, goes to the bayou to investigate the report of several strange animal deaths. Groups of dead animals have been found with no outward signs of what killed them. Tara has two strikes against her, one she is a Yankee and two she is female. She has a hard time getting any of the locals to talk to her. She needs to go deep in to the bayou to look at the areas where the animals were found and to talk to the men who found them. She has to hire a guide, one who the locals will talk to and who knows his way around the bayou.
Marc Lafayette was born in the bayou and spent his childhood roaming it. He is just what Tara needs. Marc is a special-ops agent for STORM. They are in the area undercover because of the dead animals. They believe a terrorist cell has kidnapped a doctor from New York to work on a deadly virus. They also believe that the animal deaths are from the terrorist testing the virus.
Tara hires Marc to be her guide but unknown to her Marc's mission is to scare her into dropping her investigation. But that does not work and before you know it she is caught up in it. Marc finds himself falling for Tara and trying to keep her safe. Tara has feelings for Marc but she has to convince him that she is a lot stronger than her thinks she is.
Ms. Bruhns brings us the second in her Passion for Danger series. This is a fast- paced action adventure with a steamy romance. In this story you will see some recurring characters from the first book, Shoot to Thrill. But you can read this one without reading the first, but you might be a little lost about what happened to some of the characters and why they act the way they do. This book is a keeper and be on the lookout for Ms. Bruhns next book, A Kiss to Kill, coming out in April of 2010.
