A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: ReaderGirl

Ava Simpson has the opportunity to totally change herself. When accepted to a prestigious private school, she can become everything she isn't. Ava can finally be popular and wear pink. But what will her girlfriend Chloe and her weird parents say when she goes from gothic black to perky pink. Will Ava be able to fit in and find her true self, all the while hiding the change from Chloe? Even helping out with the school musical brings new choices and serious consequences. How can Ava balance her two lives without them dramatically colliding? Read "Pink" to find out.

"Pink" was an outstanding novel by Lili Wilkinson. It covered lots of different subjects, while most teen books only touch on one or two, such as sex, your identity, trying to fit in, and all the while staying true to your inner self. I really enjoyed this new novel. I loved reading as Ava found out about her true and inner self, and that is doesn't matter what others think. This book is for all of those out there and in the middle. And for those pink-wearing book-loving gothics out there, this is a definite must read!

Book Blurb for Pink

The pink jumper was practically glowing in my grey bedroom. It was like a tiny bit of Dorothy's Oz in boring old black-and-white Kansas. Pink was for girls.

Ava Simpson is trying on a whole new image. Stripping the black dye from her hair, she heads off to the Billy Hughes School for Academic Excellence, leaving her uber-cool girlfriend, Chloe, behind.

Ava is quickly taken under the wing of perky, popular Alexis who insists that: a) she's a perfect match for handsome Ethan; and b) she absolutely must audition for the school musical.

But while she's busy trying to fit in - with Chloe, with Alexis and her Pastel friends, even with the misfits in the stage crew - Ava fails to notice that her shiny reinvented life is far more fragile than she imagined.
