A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Lilyraines

A call and visit to a hospital about her stormchasing brother, who she hasn't seen in about twenty years, sets Karena Jorge on a quest that leads her into the heart of Tornado Alley.

There, as well as in other places (both physical and emotional), she encounters different storms both external and internal. She also finds out things about herself that she never knew.

Along the way, a budding relationship develops between her and one of the storm guides on a tour she joins in order to try to find her brother. Will they survive the secret that Karena has been keeping for twenty years and Charles (her brother) wants to finish hiding behind?

The Stormchasers is a book about storms - those found in nature and those that come up as a result of personality clashes in families, ones that may be especially high when one of the members has a diagnosis of bipolar disorder.

The book is a poignant read full of highs and lows and storms - all of the storms - in their many moods, sizes, and shapes. It is also a story about relationships - between parents and their children, siblings (in this case twins and the special bond they share), and partners. A fantastic and emotionally compelling read.

As a teenager, Karena Jorge has always taken care of her twin brother, Charles. Obsessed with severe weather, Charles, who suffers from bipolar disorder, begins chasing storms. Refusing to take his medication, Charles soon involves them both in a terrifying tornado chase-with deadly consequences.
