A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Lexile

The short nature of this story works well for it. The sense of urgency not just in Sid's need to find Jand again, but in Jand's growing desire to remain with Sid no matter the cost is part of what makes this story work for me. I even bought in to the insta-love the two developed since Mima showed us that the two are fiery, passionate people.

Ordinarily I would be scoffing at the plotline, since this is filled with a lot of sex (I do mean a lot, for such a short story those two made up for it!), but the plot was well developed. It was something I could relate to as well. Sid felt out of place on land, felt comfort and safety in the water all her life. To her Jand wasn't something alien, but a natural extension of her love of the water. Jand rescuing her was a perfect moment in time. She found a kindred spirit, she found a person who understood her love of all things aquatic and best of all he excited her far more than any other guy.

Their separation, and eventual reunion was a little heart breaking. Jand trying to reason Sid out of being with him was anger inducing. The guy obviously couldn't read between the lines if he honestly believed making Sid leave him was in her best interests. Their eventual compromise and admittance that things would not be easy went a long way to making this story stand out. There was no 'happily ever after' with no thought to the future or consequences; they both acknowledge that their choice wasn't going to make a lot of people happy, would lead to periods of isolation from each other and could be hard.

I've enjoyed Mima's stories in the past and this one served to reinforce that belief once again.

She sees the beauty of mixing silver with gold, and will fight to make him see it, too.

Not content with his decision, she dedicates herself to finding him again, ruthlessly exploring the waters of Bermuda. He's the most beautiful thing she's ever seen, and every inch of her sings "yes" in his presence.
