A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Josie

As a long-time vegetarian and someone who cooks a lot, I thought this cookbook was a great guide. I loved that it includes tofu, tempeh, and seitan as protein options and that it gave multiple choices for ingredients (i.e. fresh, canned, or frozen) to speed up cooking time. I've cooked several things from it and they were all good! I've also added a few permanent items to my pantry. (Yay, artichoke hearts and sun-dried tomatoes!)

I'm not sure the Thirty-Minutes-or-Less claim is always realistic especially if the cook is new, but compared with many other cookbooks the recipes are less complicated and the ingredients easy to assemble.

Also, the author gives tips and encourages the cook to season to taste, which I think is an important step to learning to cook well. Not all spices are created equal and if cooks follow recipes to a T they will often be disappointed.

Overall Quick Fix Vegan gave me new ideas and is an excellent addition to my cookbook library. It's my current go to resource. Thank you for the new ideas, the common-sense approach, and the timesaving ideas! I love it. YUM!

Quick-Fix Vegan also features "Make-Ahead Bakes," convenient recipes that are assembled ahead of time (in less than 30 minutes) and then baked before serving.

Quick-Fix Vegan draws upon a myriad of ethnic influences including French, Mexican, Moroccan, Mediterranean, Greek, Cajun, East Asian, Italian, and Middle Eastern, and features recipes such as Spicy Black Bean Hummus with Orange, Korean Hotpot, Rotini with Creamy Avocado-Herb Sauce, Moroccan-Spiced Pumpkin Soup, BBQ Pinto-Portobello Sandwiches, Burmese Ginger Salad, Autumn Harvest Gratin, and Catalan-Style Creme Brulee.

An introductory chapter provides the reader with basic information on how to maintain a "quick-fix" vegan kitchen including pantry suggestions and kitchen tips, as well as basic recipes for ingredients such as homemade vegetable stock and seitan. Cooks of all skill levels will find that the recipes inside Quick-Fix Vegan are just as delectable and adaptable to the omnivore, as they are essential to the vegan lifestyle.
