This amazing story is very refreshing in the current romance genre. Cardea is a new age heroine that does not rely on anyone for her survival. An independent, strong and powerful creature of the night, she meets the cursed Aedan and instantly feels an attraction to this stranger. Cardea finds herself needing to help Aedan without exactly knowing why she is drawn to him.
Aedan is living apart from his colony as he waits to be freed from the curse put upon him and his brother by the Fae Cat Anna. As prince Aedan awaits word from the monk Columcille on how to break the curse, he finds himself desiring to be near and spend time with Cardea. Cardea has a secret of her own that may destroy any future that she and Aedan may have together.
The storyline had a bunch of twists and turns that kept my attention and intrigued me with anticipation. I so wanted to know the outcome of this unlikely romance. Many interesting characters and love triangles make for a refreshing story that is not as neatly tied up as most romance novels of today, but has managed to make me a fan of the author’s style. I am eagerly looking forward to reading the next book (Beltaine’s Song), Book Two in the Dark Goddess Trilogy, as I have become addicted to the strength, courage and real human facets of the characters in this saga.
