A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Diana Coyle

Charlotte Reece doesn’t want to settle down because she lacks the understanding of what falling in love and marrying someone for the rest of their life truly means. She has no problem keeping her relationships light and not being tied down to any one particular man. She dates occasionally just to take the edge off her loneliness and to keep up her appearance as the bad-girl she wants everyone to think she is. But when she wins the highest bid on Marcus Preston during Houston’s Most Eligible Bachelor Auction, it seems that Charlotte has her work cut out for her more than she thinks. You see these two know each other and even had a little something going on together years back. Since then though, Charlotte did everything within her power to stay far away from Marcus. That is until now.

Marcus still likes Charlotte as much as he did in the past, but he won’t play her game of not committing to him solely. He believes in falling in love, marrying and even having children one day and he would love that special someone to be Charlotte. The problem is that she doesn’t want to tarnish her bad-girl image by settling down right now. Since she won him during the auction, they now have to spend an entire weekend together playing nice with each other for all of Houston to see because their long weekend is being documented through photo shoots with all different magazines and newspapers. Marcus is determined to win Charlotte over once and for all. The only problem is that Charlotte is on her own mission to prove to Marcus that there’s nothing going on between them.

Which one of them wins by accomplishing their mission against the other one? Can Marcus convince Charlotte that she’s the one for him? Or does Charlotte convince Marcus that the spark between them has fizzled out?

I really enjoyed this story by Ms. Lace. I loved Charlotte and Marcus and I had hoped that Marcus would be the one to win Charlotte over in the end. I wanted her to see that her bad-girl image was wearing thin and it was finally time to grow up. I wanted her to see that Marcus was being heartfelt with her and that falling in love with him wasn’t as bad a thing as she perceived it to be. I loved the dialogue between these two characters and I enjoyed seeing them try to convince the other of what each of their intentions were for their weekend-only partner. After reading this story and enjoying it so much, I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from Ms. Lace in the future!

Contemporary Champagne Rose
Rating: Hot Page Count: 290

Marcus Preston wants a relationship built on love and trust, but the woman he wants made it clear long ago she's only interested in fun and games. Yet, moving on proves difficult when no one else can erase the memory of the night they shared last summer.

Charlotte Reese doesn't believe in love, marriage, or happily ever afters. An occasional one-night stand is all she needs to take the edge off her loneliness and enhance the bad-girl image she uses to discourage commitment-seeking men—especially Marcus, the only man to melt both her body and her heart melt.

When Charlotte wins Marcus hot off the block of Houston’s Most Eligible Bachelor Auction and they’re forced to spend the weekend together, she seizes the opportunity to seduce him and extinguish the attraction sizzling between them once and for all. But for Marcus, it’s all or nothing. He won’t be seduced. Instead, he’ll show Charlotte she has more to offer a man than sex.
