A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Diana Coyle
Suzanne Hart, owner of the local donut shop, Donut Hearts, can't believe she's wrapped up in another situation involving the police. You see, one of the local shop keepers has gone missing and it seems that Suzanne was the very last person to see Emily Hargraves. Of course Chief Martin starts asking Suzanne questions to see if she might know what happened to Emily. But her last encounter with Emily didn't seem all that strange to her except for the fact that she asked for a blueberry donut with all crazy confections on it. Other than that, everything seemed normal while Emily was in the shop. After some searching around, Emily is finally found. Ironically, it seems that she decided to go on an afternoon adventure with none other than Max, Suzanne's ex-husband. Once the search party is called off, Suzanne is happy that things are going to return back to normal for everyone. But that may be just wishful thinking because when Grace, her best friend, and Suzanne are walking through the local park, they can't believe their eyes with what is hanging in the town's famous Patriot Tree. It's a corpse and Suzanne has just found herself in the middle of yet another police investigation. Who was killed and placed on one of the Patriot Tree's branches? Is Suzanne's life in any kind of danger now that she found the poor murder victim? I absolutely loved Book 5 of A Donut Shop Mystery. Ms. Beck writes from the heart and her narrative just floats off the pages. I love her storylines and it's so enjoyable to see old characters drift in and out of each book. I adore Suzanne and feel bad that no matter how hard she tries to stay out of trouble, it always seems to bring her right back in the middle again with the latest police investigation going on. If you love light cozy mysteries, this is the perfect series to lose yourself in for a few hours. I assure you that you'll fall in love with the series and Ms. Beck's characters as I have done. Please keep writing more of your donut shop mysteries, Ms. Beck!

Book Blurb for Tragic Toppings
Donut shop owner Suzanne Hart sees customers come and go all day long. But when one of them up-and-disappears, the police start asking questions. It seems Suzanne is the last person to have seen Emily Hargraves, who runs the local newsstand. Suzanne has nothing to report about their encounter. But when Emily doesn’t turn up, no news is bad news…
Suzanne has to admit that Emily’s last request was a little odd—a blueberry donut made to order, with chocolate icing, sprinkles, stars, and a chewy sour gummy worm coiled on top. Odder still: Suzanne’s ex-husband Max also appears to be missing. But what really takes the cake? The corpse Suzanne finds hanging from a tree in the park. Who knew donut-making could turn out to be such dangerous business…
