A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Dee

With the news of her twin sister’s death Lelandi sets out to discover the truth surrounding her death. She doesn’t believe Larissa would commit suicide.

The story opens with Lelandi observing the local bar Larissa’s mate frequents. As she’s Larissa’s twin, Lelandi soon becomes the center of attention. Some of the local females think she might be in town to take their men away, and Lelandi who’s handy with her feet and fists teaches them that’s not the case.

The pack and town leader Darien take a special interest in Lelandi when she protects one of the packs men during a volley of gunshots. She gets shot and leads the gunman away, into the woods, where she ends up at the mercy of the gunman.

The drama takes place in a town of wolf shape shifters. Some conflict involves living with non-shifters. Other conflicts include finding Larissa’s killer; Lelandi while still on the mend disappears to search out the killer on her own, the hierarchy between red and grey wolves, and Darien’s desire to make Lelandi his mate.   Lelandi stirred up the town. She made friends and enemies, and a mate for life.

I found a few inconsistencies in this story and instances that I felt needed to be done different. The idea of Larissa having a wolf mate in Darien and a tryst on the side was a bit hard to accept especially as he is a wolf and pack leader; wouldn’t he smell another on her when she returned from a rendezvous? Another instance that had my mind churning was when Lelandi gives her jacket to a kid after rescuing the group and leaves the gun in the coat pocket, so now she doesn’t have a gun if needed and it’s in the hands of a kid. That’s not very smart. The author ends up telling us the answers to all the riddles - maybe because there’s so many - rather than allowing the characters to play them all out.

Destiny of the Wolf was an interesting twist on the werewolf genre. With the items above changed and good explanations given this story could have been more believable and a smoother read. The story had a good amount of drama and storyline. I gave Terry Spear’s book Heart of the Wolf a 5/5, but because of the above concerns I’m not able to rate this one as high. I’ll look forward to seeing future novels by Terry Spear, as I know she has lots of potential.
