A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Daisiemae
A Rose Among the Ruins by Ariel Tachna kept me enthralled with it’s unique storyline and amazingly likeable and sexy heroes. The lyrical writing style that Ms. Tachna has captivated me from the very first page to the last word. I truly loved every minute I spent reading this book and I truly hated to see it come to an end. A Rose Among the Ruins is a wonderful ‘Gay for You’ themed story that was very well told, and the circumstances in which they fell in love was very well written and believable.
The political marriage between a Mordyn princess and the prince of Ageselm will ensure peace and harmony between the two kingdoms. The prince sends his best knights to bring the princess to him, safe from harm, Rhicer and Kanath. Both men have fought many battles side by side and are good friends. On the long sea voyage home, with the princess safely in tow, Rhicer feels somewhat disillusioned with the whole arranged marriage. To cheer up his friend, Kanath sneaks a bottle of wine from the princesses personal stock to toast the upcoming nuptials and to cheer up his friend Rhicer. Both men notice that the bottle has a unique rose symbol on it, but not thinking much about it, they share a toast and drink the entire bottle together.
When they wake the next morning they are surprised by the intense attraction and love they feel for each other. This confuses both of them, and when they find out the bottle of wine was really a love potion for the prince and princess to share so that they will live happily in love together, both men are alarmed. Homosexuality is forbidden in Ageselm and their love and devotion toward each other has now put both of their lives at stake. Will they somehow find a way to break the spell that has been cast upon them or will they take a chance and try to live together as lovers forever?
This is a very sweet and romantic story. It reminded me of the fairy tales my mother used to read to me when I was a young girl. It’s full of intrigue, romance and the heroes must fight to have their happy ending together. It’s not a story that’s full of angst and it’s not action packed, which suited the story’s fairy tale theme perfectly. Both heroes are likeable, sexy, funny and amazing men that I really enjoyed getting to know. I truly loved getting to know them, and about the amazing love they shared between them.
I could not find a website on Ms. Tachna. But I did find her my space page. It didn’t look to be updated, but there is still some good information about her other books and about Ms. Tachna herself. Here is the link to read more about Ms. Tachna http://blogs.myspace.com/arieltachna

After almost a generation of war, peace has come at last through the political marriage of a Mordyn princess to the prince of Ageselm. While escorting the bride, comrades-in-arms Rhicer and Kanath inadvertently drink a love potion intended for the newlyweds—and find themselves dealing with newfound desire for one another. As they struggle with their growing connection in a culture that despises same-sex love, Rhicer and Kanath face a terrible decision: give in to the social mores of their time and abandon love or answer the call of their hearts and leave Ageselm forever.
