Suzie Q and her best friend Chester are sent to the city of Roxeth for their two week internship at the Lysistrata Museum. While taking in the city, and experiencing life on her own without her parents, Suzie decides to explore her private love of dance and take hip hop lessons that are available at the hotel. Her instructor is the fabulously hot and outrageously talented Jo.Zee, an up and coming hip hop dancer and fitness instructor. When Jo.Zee sees raw talent in Suzie during her first class, he invites her to take the place of a dancer who bailed on his new fitness instruction video, which will be filmed just before Suzie has to return home. Suzie is dazzled by Jo.Zee, his talents, his worldliness and his unabashed athletic hotness and charm. But is Jo.Zee for real, or feeding her a line? Chester doesn't think Jo.Zee is honest about his love life, but Suzie is beginning to think that dance has led her to the first love of her life. The Intern is charming and down to earth, carefully plotted to conceal Jo.Zee's true motives while at the same time honestly exploring Suzie's first taste of adult freedom. During her internship, Suzie explores her talent for dance, makes new friends and finds herself infatuated with a handsome young man who may be bad but who is also very talented and driven. Despite some small copyediting errors, the author seems highly knowledgeable about dance and hip hop culture which will also entrall young adult readers who love hip hop. The Intern is a consistent and well-crafted story of first love and new experiences, and Suzie is a believable protagonist who is swept up by infatuation for a very handsome young man, who also reveals the dance world that she longs to enter.
