A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Chris

Jane clings to a happier time when her mother was alive because with her gone she's at the mercy of her father and the rest of his family; the whole lot of them thieves and cutthroats. Determined to find love and marry she's kept herself pure. That is all for nothing when a man bent on revenge, rightly so, kills her entire family in front of her and takes her with him to replace what he's lost. As she's dragged across the countryside by her captor Gavyn she finds herself falling for the gruff, often violent, man. What is wrong with her?

Gavyn lost his wife and two boys at the whims of a lustful man. Jane is that man's daughter and will be made to replace his heart and soul by providing him more children, whether she likes it or not. But can he really be that heartless?

All of those bodice rippers are brought to mind, but this is probably far more accurate a depiction. Gavyn takes what he wants, although he makes Jane like it and gives her the ultimate pleasure. A gooey romance it's not but it was entertaining and steamy. Jane was a woman with her wits about her and looked at things realistically rather than through rose-colored glasses. I found myself liking her more and more as the story progressed. A tidy ending that made everything that went before it appear in a new light, the author did a good job keeping the reader invested until the end.

Book Blurb for The Warlord's Revenge

All Jane Stewart wanted was a normal life. To be happy and fall in love. Her criminal family made that dream impossible, dragging her all around the countryside of England to escape the enemies they so easily made. When revenge drives their greatest enemy, Gavyn MacLaren, to kill her family and take her as his prisoner, all her hopes and the future she's dreamed of are dashed.

Travelling on horseback to Scotland with the warlord isn't easy for Jane, considering she finds him to be an uncivilized brute who only spared her life to get her pregnant with his child. She also can't stop admiring how clever and handsome Gavyn is, and with each passing day she spends as his prisoner, her attraction to him becomes an irresistible temptation.

Will Jane surrender to her passion for Gavyn before she can escape him?
