A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Chris

In a world where shifters were encouraged to come forward, and then mercilessly hunted, what’s left of the race is in hiding and an Underground Railroad helps those who survived find sanctuary. Pale Rysen is part of that organization, but he is also a Detective with the police. When a killer starts to kill young women and the police are left with no clues, a Sibile is called in. While not shifters, they are instead gifted with powers that make them separate from normal humans. Feared, they are powerful and paid by humans when all other forms of finding killers are exhausted. Jade Scarlet is a Sibile, but she is also half wolf; an abomination in the Order. But she is still useful and being mercenary, the Order has no qualms sending her to assist the police in finding the killer. But that action sets forth a series of events that will change her life, and the Order, forever.

With an intricate world full of politics and intrigue, Pale and Jade set off sparks from the very beginning. Her wolf answers the call of Pale’s and she is thrown into heat, opening a whole new can of worms. Fighting with his own reservations, Pale is torn about whether he wants her as his mate or not. Raised in an essentially sterile environment, Jade is like a child once outside the Order. Unfamiliar with technology she is distracted and fascinated with the world around her. But her biggest distraction is Pale.

What an imagination the author had in creating this tale. Well paced and with plenty of heat, I quickly read this book to discover all it’s secrets. While I don’t normally care for the destined mates theme, I did like that both Pale and Jade weren’t quick to jump on the bandwagon, so to speak. Both had reservations about the other and that added another dimension to the theme. The killer was a total surprise, another plus. Not at all predictable, this was my first experience with this author but I look forward to more stories in the future.

Book Blurb for Tempting the Enemy

Detective Pale Rysen, an Alpha, is determined to secretly rebuild the Wolf packs from the ashes of genocide. When a killer starts picking off young females looking for sanctuary, it's his job to protect them. Forced to work with a hated enemy, he fears his cover will be blown.

Jade-Scarlet's membership in the powerful Order of the Sibile has always been controversial. A half-wolf, Jade's unstable psychic powers are a disappointment to her mercenary handlers. So when the Oracle commands her to work with Pale, Jade must prove herself...even if it means challenging the enigmatic shifter.

Yet Pale triggers more than her curiosity. He sends her into Heat, and the intense sexual attraction could mean losing control of her gifts—something she can't allow. As the number of victims rises, so does the danger. A murderous darkness wants them both dead. But even if they stop the killer, how long can they fight each other?
