Teddy has seen it happen to the women in her family and vows it won't happen to her. Being a bear shifter she knows she has a destined mate but the odds of her stumbling on him are slim. But the odds just changed. And just because they are destined mates doesn't guarantee love or fidelity. You can count her out of that arrangement. She's seen her mother and sisters go through it and refuses. When she and her mate first meet she can tell he's less than thrilled with her. So she's short and rounded. His loss and good riddance. But she doesn't expect him to embrace their mating after his initial show of refusal. And she's not equipped to handle a wolf who's decided to claim his mate. What an interesting perspective and change of pace. The shifters in all the stories I've previously read are gorgeous and their mates the same. Teddy is your average (pardon the pun) bear. She's not stunning or statuesque. What she is is comfortable in her identify and screw any man who doesn't deem her worthy based on her appearance. And that is where she snags Reece. He's always wanted by the opposite sex. Why not his mate? So begins the chase and test of wills that will shape their future together. I've never been a big fan of the destined mate because it seemed an excuse to me. But in this case it was the engine that powered the story. The more Reece chased the more Teddy ran. And the sex was so hot and urgent it left my ears smoking. Reece was kind of a conceited ass in the beginning but that was the whole point. When the wolf found his mate he made Reece toe the line. A very romantic read that wasn't all puppies and ribbons.
