A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Chris

Grey Sexton is bored with his life. Something is missing but he can't single out what it is. Nothing excites him anymore until he encounters Beth McConnell's gaze. The air seems to sizzle when his eyes meet hers and he feels a connection with her. He can see everything he is feeling in her eyes and it draws him to her.

Beth chooses the path of her own life. She likes sex, heaven forbid, and indulges herself when she finds the right man. This doesn't happen often but when it does she lives in the moment knowing it will end. When she seduces Grey she finds his demeanor of possessiveness and sexual aggression an exciting change and challenge. But it also means he must go. She can't risk her emotional self on a dalliance with a rich man only looking for a plaything. But why then can't she sever their connection?

This was an intriguing look into the sex lives of two people constrained by the era they were born in. Beth would be branded a whore if her activities were common knowledge. Today she would be a woman who goes for what she wants. What a difference time makes. Grey and Beth were perfect for one another but feared revealing themselves fully. And that was the catch. There can be no true intimacy without risk and while both wanted the other they'd been taught to avoid exposure as that indicated weakness. How did the human race evolve at all with such constraints?

I really enjoyed Beth's inner dialogue as she coached herself to walk away but was continuously drawn back to Grey by her own attraction. And Grey, while a little overbearing and autocratic at times, managed to be man enough to be conciliatory when it mattered. The secretive nature of their meetings added even more spice to their liaisons, and they were spicy as it was. A very emotional read that really had an edge in political influences that drove the characters. I look forward to more of Beth and Grey's dance toward a happily ever after together.

Book Blurb for Grey's Lady

Seeking sexual excitement and conquest, poor but beautiful Beth seduces wealthy merchant prince Grey Sexton, only to find herself the pursued as he seeks to own her body and soul.

Flouting the moral standards of Jeffersonian America, temptress Beth McConnell lets no man touch her heart. Her motto is love them once and leave them burning.

But when she boldly seduces Grey Sexton, a self-controlled merchant prince from New York, she finds herself too fascinated by his ice-over-fire nature to stay away. His possessive determination to own her, body and soul, threatens to expose her secret erotic life to public shame.

But Beth will only surrender her love to a man she can trust. And Grey's materialistic approach to relationships leaves her little reason to believe he can ever give her what she truly needs.

For these two cynical yet lonely people, can deep sexual intimacy work a miracle and lead to the opening of their hearts?
