A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Books4Betty

If I can predict one book to pop up all over readers' Best of 2012 lists', Incarnate by Jodie Meadows is it. Despite a slower-than-I-wanted start, this book has it all. Romance, mystery, romance. romance and some more of that. Okay, maybe Incarnate isn't full of romance, but I sure walked away with little hearts floating all around me. I do love this one, and readers everywhere will, too.

When I step into a book that doesn't take place in modern times, or anything normal at all, I want to be completely immersed. Incarnate, a book about reincarnation, futuristic-dystopian-like, did exactly what I wanted. As I turned each page I knew I'd landed in some far away world, a world I couldn't wait to explore. Meadows holds back nothing. From the heartbeats in the wall to the humanized Temple, Heart had its own story within Incarnate. When a simple wall around the city has a life of its own, and one that I want to learn more about, I know I'm reading something great. maybe even wonderful.

One of the other reasons Incarnate is such a great read: Ana. Ana, or Nosoul as her mother has deemed her, is a rather rare and hated being. In a place where everyone is reincarnated and knows one another, Ana's existence is as much confounding as it is loathed. In order for her to have been created, one of the members of Range had to have died. The loss of one soul for a new one is too much for most to deal with. So, when Ana arrives she is immediately ridiculed and mocked. From the words of Ana, this part of Incarnate broke my heart. This girl, because she is only a girl, is lost. Her mother tossed her out and set her on a dangerous path. On her journey to a new beginning, Ana runs into Sam and everything in this book gets better. Way, way better.

I can also predict Sam to pop up on Best Guys of 2012 lists', as well. He's mysterious, closed off, brooding, yes. However, he's also sweet, caring, protective, sexy beyond words, and a musician. Sign me up in this guy's fan-club, because I want some more of it! When Sam show's up (early in the book!) he takes it upon himself to help Ana. I really loved the slow building of Ana and Sam's relationship. Do they wind up together? I cannot say, but they do form a beautiful bond. The friendship between Ana and Sam is as sweet as it is intense. When flames ignite between the two, Meadows stops at nothing to keep the readers turning the pages. I gasped at times. I laughed at others. Mostly? I smiled like a giddy school girl.

Incarnate is filled with adventure, mystery, friendship, and romance so hot I blushed and blushed some more. I highly recommend this one!

Book Blurb for Incarnate

NEWSOUL
Ana is new. For thousands of years in Range, a million souls have been reincarnated over and over, keeping their memories and experiences from previous lifetimes. When Ana was born, another soul vanished, and no one knows why.

NOSOUL
Even Ana’s own mother thinks she’s a nosoul, an omen of worse things to come, and has kept her away from society. To escape her seclusion and learn whether she’ll be reincarnated, Ana travels to the city of Heart, but its citizens are suspicious and afraid of what her presence means. When dragons and sylph attack the city, is Ana to blame?

HEART
Sam believes Ana’s new soul is good and worthwhile. When he stands up for her, their relationship blooms. But can he love someone who may live only once, and will Ana’s enemies—human and creature alike—let them be together? Ana needs to uncover the mistake that gave her someone else’s life, but will her quest threaten the peace of Heart and destroy the promise of reincarnation for all?
