Sir Gideon Trevithick has returned as a national hero, he is recognized throughout England and praised for his brave escape from an Indian prison, where he was tortured mercilessly for over a year. Everyone wants to come shake his hand or pat him on his back, much to his horror, as the very thought of human touch nearly pushes him over the edge. When he comes across the battered woman in the stable he cannot help but reach out to protect her.

Lady Charis Weston is running from her brutal step-brothers, who will stop at nothing to gain her wealth. Scared for her life, she cannot trust anyone. But when Gideon insists on helping her, she quickly realizes that he is her quickest route to safety. The easiest way for him to protect her, is for them to marry. Gideon maintains that this will be naught but a marriage in name only, but Charis has found that Gideon's touch ignites a fire in her, one she wishes to engulf her and Gideon in flames of passion, but can Gideon overcome his past to embrace Charis and the future?

----

CAPTIVE OF SIN is an intensely passionate story of battling emotions. Gideon has suffered immensely at the hands of his captors, because of that he is not sure he will ever be able to experience touch or normal human emotions ever again. Charis is determined not to let him push her away, she cannot stand to see the pain he goes through when he has an episode, but she also knows that they can work through his phobia, at least with her. She knows he wants her, but also understands that if she gives up, they have both lost. Anna Campbell has superbly captured the strong feelings and actions of her characters. I could feel the pain and frustration both Gideon and Charis suffered as they overcame their pasts, as well as their joy over each triumph. I really liked both characters, they are written with strong depth of character. This is not a breezy “popcorn” read, but a more meaty all-consuming tale. I can't wait for Ms. Campbell's next book.
