Children of Scarabaeus

Edie Sha'nim believes she and her bodyguard lover, Finn, coiuld find refuge from the tyranny of the Crib empire by fleeing to the Fringe worlds. But Edie's extraordinary cypherteck ability to manipulate the ecology of evolving planets makes her far too valuable for the empire to lose. Edie Sha'nim and Finn are back, picking up shortly after we last saw them, having escaped Scarabaeus and the Crib. Edie is in a bad way as she is in desperate need of a new neuroxin implant. Still connected by the neurological tether planted by the Crib, Finn is anxious to help Edie. Though the leash isn't the only thing holding him, he truly cares for her. Kidnapped by rebel forces, Edie is at first unsure whether to be thankful for her release from the Crib empire or to be fearful of what the Fringe revolutionaries plan to use her and her abilities for. When she learns that the bodyguard, Finn, assigned to her will die if she roams out of a very short range, she knows that her only loyalties are to herself and becomes determined to escape, with Finn, at least
