Chase in Shadow

Chase Summers: Golden boy. Beautiful girlfriend, good friends, and a promising future.

Nobody knows the real Chase.

Chase Summers has a razor blade to his wrist and the smell of his lover’s goodbye clinging to his skin. He has a door in his heart so frightening he’d rather die than open it, and the lies he’s used to block it shut are thinning with every forbidden touch. Chase has spent his entire life unraveling, and his decision to set his sexuality free in secret has only torn his mind apart faster.

Chase has one chance for true love and salvation. He may have met Tommy Halloran in the world of gay-for-pay—where the number of lovers doesn’t matter as long as the come-shot’s good—but if he wants the healing that Tommy’s love has to offer, he’ll need the courage to leave the shadows for the sunlight. That may be too much to ask from a man who’s spent his entire life hiding his true self. Chase knows all too well that the only things thriving in a heart’s darkness are the bitter personal demons that love to watch us bleed.

The wedding is over and the real work has begun. Teague was almost killed in the line of duty, and everyone has felt the consequences. While Jack, Teague, and Katy grapple with Teague's injuries and their implications, the Lady Cory who protects them all is forced to deal with an entirely different development-one she is almost completely unaware of. But when Teague needs help protecting his mates, Cory and Bracken jump into action. Literally.

But Cory almost died saving Teague's life, and now she's the one who needs saving. Teague Sullivan has been willing to sacrifice everything in defense of his queen and his lovers except his pride. Will he be able to live with the consequences of asking for help?

Sacrifice, love, learning to live within your limitations, going above and beyond, and coming into your own. Between Teague, Jack and Katy, Being has it all. Like other Amy Lane stories I have read, I liked this one - the characters, what the story conveys, and the storytelling. While Being can be read by itself (as how Jack, Teague and Katy learn how to deal with themselves and with each other while by th

It's Not Shakespeare

A Solid Core of Alpha

In an act of heroism and self-sacrifice, Anderson Rawn's sister saved him from the destruction of their tiny mining colony, but her actions condemned the thirteen-year-old to ten years of crushing loneliness on the hyperspace journey to a new home. Using electronics and desperation, Anderson creates a family to keep him company, but family isn't always a blessing.

When Anderson finally arrives, C.J. Poulson greets him with curiosity and awe, because anyone who can survive a holocaust and reinvent holo-science is going to be a legend and right up C.J.'s alley. But the more C.J. investigates how Anderson endured the last ten years, the deeper he is drawn into a truly dangerous fantasy, one that offers the key to Anderson's salvation-and his destruction.

In spite of his best intentions, C.J. can't resist the terribly seductive Anderson. Their attraction threatens to destroy them, because the heart of a man who can survive the destruction of his people and retain his sense of self holds a solid core of alpha male that will not be denied.

Living Promises

Six years ago, Jeff Beachum comforted a frightened teenager outside an HIV treatment clinic, and Collin Waters has remembered his kindness ever since. Now, after six years of crushing on the kind, brown-eyed sweetheart of his dreams, Collin is feeling adult and together enough to make his move. Too bad fate, which has never been kind to Jeff, has something else in mind.

Jeff's life had fallen completely apart before that long-ago day, and it isn't much better now. Jeff has toughened up, become self-reliant, been the funny guy his friends turn to, the one who gives advice and comfort when needed. But every phantom from Jeff's past is about to come out to haunt him, and the family Jeff has staked his future on isn't in such great shape either. Collin is more than a starry-eyed kid, and it's a good thing, because Jeff's going to need all the help he can get. No one knows better than Jeff that life can be too short to turn your back on honest love, and that living happily is the best promise of all.

Living Promises is a rich story that is full of vivid characters, the family you choose (as opposed to the one you are born into), friends, love, and, well, promises. It is a story about an act of kindness that comes back a hundred-fold at a time when every little scrap of it is needed. It is also a story that may very well have the reader laughing, crying (sometimes both at once), and not wanting the story

The Locker Room

Xander Karcek has only wanted two things in his life: Christian Edwards and basketball-the man he loves and the game that let him escape a childhood he'd rather forget. His two obsessions have served him well. He and Chris beat the odds and stayed together through high school, college, and right on to the NBA. But life under fame's microscope isn't easy, especially when two men are pretending to be frat-buddies so the world doesn't know they're the next best thing to married. Their relationship survives the sacrifices they make and the lies they tell to stay together, but when their secret is exposed, the fallout might destroy them when nothing else could. Chris and basketball are the two things holding Xander together. Now the world is asking Xander to make a choice. Is there an option that includes a future with the man he loves?

I was really excited to read and review The Locker Room by Amy Lane. I love Ms. Lane's books because she spoils her readers by writing amazing characters that not only read realistically, but are also very likeable people. They are always wonderfully flawed, loveable and determined men who live and breathe off of the written page, so when I'm about to read a book written by her, I admit I have very high expe

Talker's Redemption

Tate Walker's past is too painful to just disappear, even if his dream boy, Brian Cooper, is there to hold his hand. Brian does his best, but Talker—always good at avoiding his own pain—is having a hard time facing the truth about what happened when he trusted the wrong man at the wrong time.

When that truth resurfaces and lands Brian in the hospital, Talker is forced to make a choice. He can either confront every demon in his fragile, bleeding heart, or he can let Brian take the heat for him, just like he has from the beginning. But even Talker knows you don't leave your dream boy alone and undefended when he just saved your life, and he’ll have to find the strength to take care of Brian when Brian needs him the most.

There is always more to Amy Lane’s books than meets the eye. I know when I start reading any of her books, I’ll be swept up into the complex and sometimes (okay most of the time) emotionally charged storyline. Her characters are always wonderfully written and beautifully flawed, and I’m almost always guaranteed that I’m going to break down and cry with her characters, laugh out loud w

Guarding the Vampire's Ghost

For four millennia, Shepherd, Angel of Repentance, and Jefischa, Angel of the Fourth Hour of Dark, have worked as a team to provide heavenly assistance to those who call their names. Shepherd's work has made him dark and dour, but he's determined to protect Jefischa from all of the terrible pain the mortal world has to offer. Now an accident of divine politics has put Adrian, a twice-dead vampire, in heaven, and angels have been falling to Earth to engage in forbidden activities ever since. Shepherd doesn't know how, and he doesn't know why, but he's heaven-bent on keeping the impressionable Jefischa out of Adrian's clutches. But how is it that someone who was supposedly not human can teach two angels so much about the best of humanity? And how is it that—as long as he has Jefi by his side—no duty on earth or in heaven is as pleasurable as guarding the vampire's ghost?

Talker

Tate "Talker" Walker has spent most of his life hiding his scars under a bright punk facade, and until he sat next to Brian Cooper on a bus, it worked. But Brian has spent his whole life being the invisible man, and he's used to looking below the surface. What he sees in Talker is a fragile and lovable human being.

Brian is outwardly straight, but Talker is desperate for love, and when Talker's behavior leads to some painful consequences, Brian is forced to come out of his closet—in dramatic fashion. He'll do anything to make sure Talker sees that he's the Prince Charming Talker has always needed.

Amy Lane never ceases to amaze me. I had a feeling when I started Talker that it was going to be unlike anything I’ve ever read before…and I was right.  As usual, Ms. Lane was able to take this reader on the incredible journey of love and self discovery that both Brian and Tate go through. I loved this book and I truly hated to see it come to an end.   When Brian and Tate &l

Bewitched by Bella's Brother

Novella

Sebastian Craig and Isabella Bryne have been best friends for five years in the Neverland of academia, and that's where they're planning to stay. So when Bella's brother, Asa, offers them a rent-free summer in his gorgeous home before they move to their next college and degree, they jump at the chance. It looks like a good deal at first... but there's more to Asa than meets the eye, and Sebastian finds himself suddenly hip-deep in complicated, grown-up problems and the frightening, bemusing prospect of having a family that will miss him when he's gone.

When the best summer of his life finally ends, Sebastian has to make a difficult decision between staying in perpetual childhood forever, and facing adulthood—with all of its joys and fears. It seems that when Sebastian and Bella came up with a master plan for the future, they didn't count on Sebastian being bewitched by Bella's brother.

When I started Bewitched by Bella’s Brother by Amy Lane, I had a feeling I was in for a treat. I’ve learned from reading some of her other novels that she really is the master at writing a sensual and beautifully told love story between her heroes. Needless to say, I found myself becoming enamored by not only her amazing heroes, but all of her characters in this book.  This was a very fa

Making Promises by Amy Lane is the second book in the ‘Promises’ series. Not only did I love this book; I’ve officially become addicted to reading about the easily identifiable and likable characters that continue to be the focus in this amazing series. Even with it being almost four hundred pages, Making Promises is very fast paced and once I started it, I wasn’t able to put it down.

Carrick Francis has spent most of his life jumping into trouble with both feet. The only thing saving him from prison or worse is his absolute devotion to Deacon Winters. Deacon was Crick's sanity and salvation during a miserable, abusive childhood, and Crick would do anything to stay with him forever. So when Deacon's father dies, Crick puts his college plans on hold to help Deacon as Deacon has helped him.

Deacon's greatest wish is to see Crick escape his memories and the town they grew up in so Crick can enjoy a shining future. But after two years of growing feelings and temptation, the painfully shy Deacon finally succumbs to Crick's determined advances and admits he sees himself as part of Crick's life.

It nearly destroys Deacon when he discovers Crick has been waiting for him to push him away, just like Crick's family did in the past.  When Crick's knack for volatile decisions lands him far away from home, Deacon is left, shellshocked and alone, struggling to reforge his heart in a world where love with Crick is a promise, but no means a certainty.

Bound

Humans have the option of separation, divorce, and heartbreak—for Corinne Carol-Anne Kirkpatrick, sorceress and queen of the vampires, the choices are limited to love or death. Now that she is back at Green’s hill and assuming her duties as leader, her life is, at best, complicated. Bracken and Nicky are rivalling for her affections, Green is gone taking care of his people, and a new supernatural enemy is threatening the sanctity of all she has come to love. Throw in a family reunion gone bad, a supernatural psychiatrist and a killer physics class, and Cory’s life isn’t just complex, it’s psychotic.

Cory needs to get her act and her identity together, and soon, because the enemy she and her lovers are facing is a nightmare that doesn’t just kill people, it unmakes them. If she doesn’t figure out who she is and what her place is on Green’s hill, it’s not just her life on the line. She knows from hard experience that the only thing worse than facing death is facing the death of someone she loves.

Because loving people is easy—living with them is what takes the real work, and it’s even harder if you’re BOUND.

Green: "If someone gives their life for you, it is because they cannot bear to live in a world without you. This is a great gift and a terrible burden, and if you are going to live, you need to be grateful for the gift and prepared to bear the burden."
